At 1900 Wealth, we believe investing in the next generation extends beyond portfolios, it’s about empowering future leaders with guidance, encouragement, and real-world perspective. This year, Investment Advisor Hunt Hord exemplified that commitment through his mentorship of a student-led startup team at Alamo Heights High School.
Through the school’s Incubator program – a year-long course designed to help students develop and launch original business ideas – Hunt partnered with a team of young entrepreneurs behind a concept called HatsOn. The idea struck a personal chord with Hunt, whose own background in rodeo gave him a unique connection to their pitch and its target audience.
What began as weekly check-ins and pitch reviews quickly grew into a dynamic mentorship. Hunt helped the students shape their business plan, refine their messaging, and prepare for critical pitch presentations. From connecting them with industry contacts for market research to role-playing investor Q&A sessions, Hunt brought both insight and enthusiasm to the table.
That hands-on support paid off. The HatsOn team took first place at the Alamo Heights Pitch Night, an impressive achievement for a group navigating their first startup experience. Now, as they prepare to enter their senior year and the program’s Accelerator phase, the students continue to move forward. They’re actively finalizing their product design and working to secure a manufacturing partner.
Hunt’s involvement doesn’t end there. He will stay on as a mentor as the group transitions into the next phase of their journey through the Accelerator class, continuing to guide them through new challenges and opportunities.
Perhaps the most rewarding part? The relationship that formed along the way.
“We didn’t just see Hunt as a mentor,” one student shared. “We saw him as a friend.”
