1900 Team Q&A Series – Jessica Drought

Meet Jessica Drought, Vice President and Investment Advisor at 1900 Wealth. Jessica meets with clients to review and discuss their investment portfolios. They discuss asset allocation and performance metrics, and collaborate to ensure they are tracking to meet the client’s goals and objectives. Jessica has worked in the financial industry since 2010.

What drew you to the industry and more specifically what was your role?

I was working at Rackspace, a local technology company, when we moved from a private company to a publicly traded one. I helped with the initial public offering (IPO) and saw the process of taking a company public. I found it exciting and fascinating. Once we became a publicly traded company, I wanted to be more involved in that side of the business, so I moved into an investor relations role.

What skills do you bring to your position and to servicing your clients?

In my prior role I worked with high-net-worth individuals, managing a portfolio of stocks. Before that I worked at a private equity firm evaluating potential companies to buy and add to our investment portfolio. And before that a technology company. I even worked for the government right out of college! All these different experiences have given me a unique and well-rounded skill set. However, the most important thing I learned in every role is to listen to the client, be transparent, and be honest.

What differentiates 1900 Wealth from the competition?

The 1900 Wealth team makes the difference. Our team has an incredible breadth of knowledge spanning a myriad of industries. We have a true sense of interest and involvement with every one of our clients. The team also provides some pretty good camaraderie around the office.

What current market trends do you see?

Trends come and go. I focus on a long-term steady approach to investing. This can be difficult because market volatility is scary but routine. It is hard to predict when to get out of the market or when to get back in. Often, timing the market does not work. Staying invested and staying the course is the “trend” I recommend.

What do you enjoy most about working at 1900 Wealth

I consider myself a people person, and I like getting to know my clients better. In our meetings, we talk about investments, but we also talk about what clients have been up to, their travels, their interests, and their family. I enjoy this aspect, and it helps me serve the client better in the long run.

What are some of your favorite local spots or activities you enjoy in or around San Antonio?

I’m going to flip this question around a bit. What I like about San Antonio is that it is so centrally located. I can go anywhere on the weekend! Last weekend we went to Austin for a UT Football game for the day. We like to spend time on the beach in Port Aransas, and this weekend, we are going to pop up to Boerne, and I’ll do some shopping on Main Street with my two daughters. San Antonio is a marvelous place to live with a great community feel, but it is still close to all the action!
